The Hornady OAL Gauge can significantly improve your shooting accuracy. It is long established that accurate loads require a "proper" bullet seating depth. In most guns, bullets seated near (not touching) the rifling will shoot most accurately. Previous methods used to achieve the needed dimensions have been time consuming, imprecise, often with questionable results. The Hornady OAL Gauge performs the task accurately, and easily, in about one minute; using the same bullets you have selected for loading. After the gauge is removed from your firearm, a special port in the tool allows your caliper to measure from the case’s base to bullet tip. Or, use a comparator to measure off the bullet’s o-give. From this maximum OAL dimension, a proper bullet seating depth is easily determined. The easy to operate OAL Gauge can give results that are repeatable to .001"! As the barrel’s throat erodes, seat your bullets longer to match the erosion, restoring lost accuracy. The model C-1550 is designed for use with Autoloaders and Lever Actions. This curved gauge is easily inserted into any firearm through the ejector port in the receiver. The new gauge accepts the same modified cases and operates in much the same way as the C-1000 bolt action/single shot gauge.

The Hornady Bullet Comparator eliminates bullet tip variations to allow precise hand load dimensions from your caliper. Changes as small as .005" in bullet seating depth can significantly effect your hand load’s accuracy. Since bullets vary in their length due to bullet tip variations (by as much as .015" in the same lot), it is important that length measurements of bullets and/or cartridges be made from a reliable reference point - the o-give. This is easily accomplished when using the Hornady LNL Bullet Comparator. The unique comparator design allows for proper alignment of your caliper when using the Hornady LNL OAL Gauge (offset) or rotate the tool 180º to use for conventional (centerline) measurement. Machined from tempered aluminum, the Bullet Comparator attaches / removes from any caliper in seconds with thumb screw. Choose from any of twelve interchangeable bullet inserts from 17 to 45 caliber. Using your caliper, you can precisely measure variations in the headspace dimensions of cases before and after firing. Works with new or re-sized cases, with or without bullets seated. This gauge measures from the case-head to the datum line on the case shoulder. It allows you to properly set back the case’s shoulder for a precise fit with your chamber; typically .001" to .002". This will minimize case stretching, reduce work hardening, extend case life, and improve accuracy. Five Bushing sizes allow use with most bottleneck cases, from 17 Remington through the belted magnums. All bushings interchangeably fit the B-2000 Body which attaches to your caliper with a thumb screw. This is the same "Body" used in the Hornady LNL Comparator. See Chart to determine Bushing size.
